Collectie Market-Garden/Collection Market-Garden
Een belangrijk onderdeel van de Gelderland Bibliotheek is de Collectie Market-Garden, met meer dan 2450 titels.
Met de Operatie Market-Garden worden bedoeld de geallieerde luchtlandingen bij Arnhem, Nijmegen en Eindhoven (Market) en het oprukken van het Tweede Britse Leger vanuit Noord-België (Garden). De operatie voltrok zich van 17 september tot 26 september 1944, de nacht waarin de Britse en Poolse troepen zich vanuit Oosterbeek over de Rijn terugtrokken. Het meest tot de verbeelding sprekende onderdeel van deze operatie, de gevechten rond de Rijnbrug in Arnhem en de strijd in Oosterbeek, is later onder de naam "Slag om Arnhem" bekend geraakt.
De Collectie Market-Garden wordt voortdurend met nieuwe uitgaven aangevuld. Het materiaal dat u er aantreft is zeer divers: boeken, waaronder regimentsgeschiedenissen, kranten- en tijdschriftenartikelen, kaarten en herdenkingsprogramma's.

The Gelderland Library (de Gelderland Bibliotheek) is a special department within the Arnhem 
Library. Its collection is aimed at researchers and people who take an interest in the affairs of the province of Gelderland. The Collection of the Gelderland Library contains some 40,000 books, magazines, next to other items (i.e. brochures, reports, maps, aerial photographs, picture postcards etc.).
An important section of the Gelderland Library has always been the Market Garden Collection. More than 2450 publications about this World War II military operation can be found here. The collection is permanently supplemented. It is a collection for everyone who is interested in the history of Operation Market Garden.
'Operation Market Garden' – the allied airborne operations at Arnhem, Nijmegen and Eindhoven (Market) and the advance of the British Second Army from Northern Belgium (Garden) – took place from 17 till 26th of September 1944, the night of the retreat of the remaining British and Polish forces across the river Rhine at Oosterbeek. The fighting at the Arnhem bridge and the battle at Oosterbeek have become known as 'The Battle of Arnhem'.
The form in which the publications in the Market Garden Collection appear is very diverse: it concerns books, magazine and newspaper articles, regimental histories, maps, commemoration programmes, etc.
